Paper Adventures Team Blog Hop – Retirement List

Yay for our monthly team blog hop!

It’s a bittersweet time of the year in Stampin Up! land. There’s a new catalogue on the horizon which means lots and lots of NEW goodies to get excited about. But it also means that many things are retiring and we have to say goodbye. For me, the hardest thing to let go of is the beautiful DSP that this year in particular has been absolutely outstanding.  I have recently bought some more of a couple of my absolute favourites, knowing that I will still use them in their “retirement”.

One whole suite that I’m particularly disappointed isn’t carrying over is Myths & Magic from the Occasions Catalogue. It was a huge hit with everyone from the moment we saw it at On Stage in November. I know I’m not the only one hoarding the DSP and planning on keeping the set and still using it often – it’s especially great for those of us with young kids.

Since I am stockpiling the DSP I decided to use some up by making a couple of my new favourite fun fold cards (see my previous blog post for the story on how I became hooked on these fun folds). This DSP has a fabulous mixture of big patterns and “plainer” patterns that work so well together. And they pair especially well with the glimmer papers.

The base of this card is the retiring Marina Mist card stock. I actually love this colour, although it seems from team discussions I might be in the minority there.

How adorable is Mr Wizard? I love the side eye he has going on. That’s a wizard with attitude. The best thing about this suite is that it has both “girl” and “boy” elements – it can be hard making great cards for young boys but the wizard and knights theme is ever popular.

And of course, Miss Unicorn could not be outdone. These glittery unicorns dancing all over the paper are divine. Unicorns are very on trend and what little girl wouldn’t love a card full of sparkling unicorn friends?

I’ve used another retiring colour as the base for this card – Sweet Sugarplum. This is hands down one of my favourite colours. It is such a gorgeous pink-purple that pairs so well with many other colours. I’ll keep using every last shred of it that I have stockpiled, that’s for sure!

I really do love that unicorn!

Because this type of card showcases DSP so well I thought I would use up some other retiring paper. This card uses the Bubbles and Fizz DSP that was a free Sale-A-Bration item.

And this card uses the Birthday Memories DSP. The whole Birthday Delivery suite is retiring. This has been a funny one for me. I loved it when I saw it in the catalogue last year and I ordered the whole suite in pre-order. But I’ve never really used it. Despite the initial love we just don’t get along that well.

I did enjoy making this card, though. I love being able to die cut the elements from the DSP. I really must think of some more uses for it!

Want some more inspiration or encouragement to get your hands on something special before it retires? Keep hopping along to the fabulous Mandy and see all the creations from the Paper Adventures crew. It’s a small hop this month but there’s no shortage of inspiration!

Retired doesn’t mean gone! Good thing you stocked up on Myths & Magic – you can make cards like this for years to come!!! I love this style of fold – I can’t wait to try it!! Great way to show off the pretty DSP we love. Kelly x
